The Foundation for Conservation and Sustainable Development is a member of the Environmental Technical Roundtable to Produce Recommendations on Infrastructure and Sectoral Activities in the Amazon, in which the Technical Directorate of Sectoral and Urban Environmental Affairs (DAASU) of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS); the SINCHI Institute; and IDEAM’s Ecosystems Sub-Directorate encourage different stakeholders to incorporate capacity building and advocacy into their public and sectoral policies (for transport, agriculture, mining, and energy), in order to inspire the take up of planning and territorial environmental management processes that integrate the following measures:
- Identification and characterization of structural and functional ecological connectivity corridors,
- Multi-temporal surveying of existing roads (access roads, unpaved roads, trails) in the Amazon Forest Reserve and in areas along the agricultural frontier,
- Analysis of the environmental and social impacts deriving from the Regional Road Plan,
- Design of prototype wildlife crossings for different types of roads.
- Creation of a road signage plan,
- Consolidation and integration of spatial and thematic analysis, and the drawing up of recommendations for the Peace Contract, Regional Road Plan, and National Road Plan (roads to be prioritized, best practices),
- Guide for the implementation of the CONPES tertiary road network and, in general,
- Strengthening of conservation efforts, land-use strategies, and the sustainable management of strategic ecosystems and protected areas in the shared areas of intervention.
The work is being carried out primarily within the Amazon biome, in the departments of Guaviare, Caquetá, and southern Meta.
