Juan Saldarriaga has more than 20 years of experience as a Forest Ecologist, participating in the design, development, and implementation of plans for land use and conservation in the forests of the Andes, Amazon, and Pacific.
His work has contributed to the way in which these territories are managed, to the strengthening of Afro-Colombian and indigenous organizations’ capabilities for governance, as well as to the training of young people from Colombia and the Netherlands in the conservation and management of tropical forests in the Amazon region.
He has extensive experience in the design, implementation, management, and monitoring of protected areas and restoration of degraded areas.
Juan’s work has focused on programs and activities that strengthen the institutional and organizational capabilities of local communities; community conservation work alongside indigenous, Afro-Colombian, and settler communities; and programs for improving the quality of life of local communities through agroforestry and environmentally sustainable production systems.
