Andrés Etter previously worked in the Department of Ecology and Territory at the School of Environmental and Rural Studies, where he led a research group focused on the modeling of land-use change and its ecological and socioeconomic consequences. His research addressed the connections between land-use change and the problems of global change and biological invasions.
His expertise is in land-cover mapping, land-use change analysis, landscape ecology, spatial analysis/modelling, and (invasive) species modeling. He is interested in interdisciplinary approaches to human-environment interactions. Andrés has used the landscape ecology approach to integrate biophysical and socio-economic data collected via remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems.
He has carried out extensive mapping and modeling of land-cover and land-use change in Colombia, with emphasis on forest and savanna ecosystems. Andrés is currently developing a method for quantifying the human footprint on ecosystems.
