FCDS brought together a group of professionals from different institutions to provide the Amazon Directorate of the National Park authority with an analysis of the connectivity, and legal and sectoral planning context of the area surrounding the Serranía de Chiribiquete National Park. It is hoped that this document will influence the agenda and build consensus within the framework of the “Heart of the Amazon” initiative.
This project took place between July 2014 and January 2015 with the cooperation of the Natural Heritage Fund.
The interdisciplinary group of professionals, accompanied by the Chicago Museum and Global Canopy Program, conducted research using mainly primary and secondary sources, in several visits to municipalities in Guaviare and Caquetá. They also verified the state of deforestation and sectoral activities in San Vicente del Caguán, Guaybero, and Guaviare.
The project’s main outcome was to provide DTAM with an exhaustive analysis of the connectivity between protected areas, the legal complexities of the region and the layout of sectoral activities. A large number of photographs, maps, and documents were also included.
This project was developed in collaboration with Patrimonio Natural.
